Congratulations to Dr Shekhar Himanshu, of NHS Lothian, Edinburgh, who was the best scoring candidate of the part I exam in 2016. 

Dr Himanshu will receive one year free EANS membership and €200 to buy any neurosurgery related book(s) of his choice.

Braakman Award 2016

The Braakman award is awarded to the best candidate in the FEBNS Examination in Neurosurgery Part II, providing at least one candidate demonstrates outstanding practical knowledge and abilities in the oral exam.

After a thorough consideration of the performances of all candidates the Examination Committee unanimously agreed that the best candidate for the year 2016 was Dr. William Lo

 

Aesculap EANS Research Prize 2016

We are very pleased to announce the winners of the annual EANS Research Prize sponsored by Aesculap. After a careful review of all submitted papers, the EANS Research Committee has decided that the best papers were submitted by the following candidates:

Aesculap EANS Research Prize 2015

We are pleased to announce the winners of the annual EANS Research Prize sponsored by Aesculap. After a careful review of all submitted papers, the EANS Research Committee has decided that the best papers were delivered by the following candidates:

Braakman Award 2015

It is our great pleasure to announce this year’s recipient of the Braakman award, which is awarded to the best candidate in the EANS/UEMS European Examination in Neurosurgery Part II, providing at least one candidate demonstrates outstanding practical knowledge and abilities in the oral exam .

After a thorough consideration of the performances of all candidates the Examination Committee unanimously agreed that the best candidate for the year 2015 is Dr. Markus Wiedmann. Congratulations!

As a prize winner Dr. Wiedmann can choose one EANS event of his own choice and the EANS will cover the costs associated with this event. Additionally the EANS will provide a voucher of €200 to cover the costs of any medicine related book of own choice and a life EANS Individual Membership with all the benefits that this membership offers.

As this year the overall level of exam candidates who passed the exam was high, the Examination Committee has decided that two more exceptional candidates will receive our new prize for ‘Outstanding Performance’.  This prize goes to Victor Yang, Canada and Muhammad Zubair Tahir, UK. Both candidates will be awarded a 3-year EANS Individual Membership and voucher of €100 to cover a medicine related book of their choice.

2012


EANS Spine Fellowships Sponsored by Synthes 2012

In 2011, Synthes have added a sixth fellowship to the five existing fellowships which they so generously endow. This was exclusively available to EANS Associate Individual Members based outside EANS member countries. These are short-term fellowships, of two-months duration, undertaken at EANS approved host clinics, where fellows will be exposed to different aspects and techniques of spinal surgery and evolving technologies. We received 23 valid applications this year, from which the committee of Spine Section members selected:

EANS Aesculap Prize 2011 

As a result of the generosity of Braun Aesculap, two awards of €5,000 were available, one for the best clinical research paper and another for the best laboratory research paper. We received 19 entries this year, from which the EANS Research committee selected:

Tom Theys - Aesculap EANS Laboratory Research Prize for "Selectivity for three-dimensional shape and grasping related activity in the ventral premotor cortex".

Christian Senft - Aesculap EANS Clinical Research Prize for "Intraoperative MRI guidance and extent of resection in glioma surgery: a randomised, controlled trial".

The prizes will be presented at the EANS Annual Meeting (Bratislava, October 2012) and prize winners will be given the opportunity to deliver their work at the EANS Research Course (Krakow, October 2012).

 


Free registration to First Annual international Course in Advanced techniques in Neurosurgical Oncology

A unique course is taking place in London on 7-8 July 2012. The course combines cadaveric workshops on surgical anatomy and optimal approaches; training stations; and surgical masterclasses from top neurosurgeons revealing their signature techniques. The organizers offered one EANS Individual Members a free registration to this course. 

The winner of the free registration is Dr. Luis Miguel Sousa Marques from Portugal.


 

2011


EANS/Medtronic Research Travel Fellowship 2011

Funding of €4000.00, generously provided by Medtronic, was available for a minimum of a one month fellowship to fund a Neurosurgical trainee to visit an Academic Neurosurgical Department in one of the EANS member countries. 

Out of 27 applications received, the committee selected Pieter van Eijsden as the best candidate and winner of the fellowship. 

 


EANS Aesculap Prize 2010 

As a result of the generosity of Braun Aesculap, two awards of €5,000 were available, one for the best clinical research paper and another for the best laboratory research paper. We received 20 entries this year, from which the EANS Research committee selected:

Antonio Di Ieva - Aesculap EANS Laboratory Research Prize for "The veins of the nucleus dentatus: anatomical and radiological findings".

Miikka Korja - Aesculap EANS Clinical Research Prize for "Genetic Epidemiology of Spontaneous SAH - Nordic Twin Study".

The prizes will be presented at the European Congress of Neurosurgery (Rome, October 2011) and prize winners will be given the opportunity to deliver their work at the EANS Research Course (Lausanne, October 2011).

 


Jean Brihaye Scholarship 2011

This scholarship is funded by the EANS from a fund established and kindly donated by Professor Jean Brihaye. A single award of €10,000 is available to fund research and/or training for a young neurosurgeon. It is awarded every four years at the European Congress. This time we received 17 entries, from which the committee selected: 

Mustafa Sakar for "The effect of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) PHBHHX and human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) on axonal regeneration in experimental sciatic nerve damage". 

The prize will be presented to the winner by the president of the EANS Prof. Johannes Schramm during the Opening Ceremony of the forthcoming European Congress on Rome on Sunday 9th October.
